Linksys router setup

If you want to set up a Linksys router first thing you need to do is hardware setup. Once to connected the router to the internet modem and connected to a computer, after that, you need to log in to the admin page. Before starting the setup process of your Linksys router, you need to know how to log in. In order to log in, you should know the IP address or default web address of your router. So, let’s start with how to set up a Linksys router.

Linksys router login: myrouter.local

If you wish to access your Linksys smart wi-fi router from a connected device, type Myrouter.local into your browser. You can manage the configurations of a Linksys router by logging in to myrouter local. Users can modify the settings from basic to sophisticated once you’ve gotten into the Linksys router configuration page. You only need to open a web browser and type the address http://myrouter.local into the address box. Follow the steps below to learn how to log in to your Linksys router.

  • Connect the Linksys router’s WLAN port to the broadband modem with an Ethernet wire. Verify that the connection is in good working order.
  • Then, using an Ethernet cable, connect the Linksys router’s LAN port to a smart device such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone. To make a successful connection, you can even employ a wireless technique.
  • To reach the Linksys setup page, use an internet browser of your choice.
  • In the browser’s address field, type localor
  • You will be prompted to enter the username and password in the appropriate fields on the Linksys router login screen.
  • Put ‘admin’ in the username field and ‘admin’ in the password field.
  • Finally, select the ‘Login’ option from the drop-down menu.

Follow the instructions below in order to set up a Linksys router:

At first, please check that the internet connection is active. If the internet connection is active, connect your router with the internet cable modem using an ethernet cable. If the internet connection is not active, call your internet service provider.

Link the devices:

  • First, of all, connect an ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN port or internet port of your router.
  • Grab another ethernet cable and connect the one end to one of the ethernet ports of your router and the other end to the computer.
  • Then, plug in the power adapter in the power socket and connect it to the power port of your router. Check the LEDs on the router. After connecting the devices together Please check the lights on the penal of your router. Make sure that the ports’ appropriate lights are turned on.

Configuration of the router:

  • At first, you need to open the login page. To login, open any web browser like Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari on your computer. Type www.myrouter.local or in the address bar of your computer.
  • After pressing enter, It will ask you to type in the username and password. Leave the User name section empty, and in the Password section, type “admin” and click OK.
  • After entering the password when you click OK, if you get an error message, that means the entered password is wrong. If it is not a new router, please type the previously set up password. And if you forgot the old password, in that case, CONTACT US to recover the password.
  • From the SETUP tab, choose MAC Address Clone. A MAC Address is a unique identification for a network adapter on a device. This is a standard strategy among cable Internet service providers to ensure that subscribers have access to the Internet.
  • You must enable the MAC Address Clone option on your Linksys router in order to connect it to your ISP. As a result, your ISP will be able to identify the router as a device and determine the router’s MAC Address.
  • Select Clone My PC’s MAC after enabling Enabled. Select Save.
It will verify the status of internet connection. To verify the type of internet connection follow the steps given below:
  • Click on the status tab.
  • Check the IP address of your computer on the internet. Select Release IP Address, then click the Renew IP Address buttons if the Internet IP Address counts presented are

You must be able to use the Internet. If it still isn’t working, power cycle the modem and then the device. To carry out the power cycle procedure, follow these steps:

  • Close the modem or turn it off. Close the PC and unplug the power adapter through the router after the modem is turned off.
  • Start the modem and wait for the lights to turn on.
  • Start the router, then wait for the lights to turn on properly before turning on your device.
  • Your Internet connection must be up and running right now. If you’re still having trouble getting online, try resetting your modem.


At first, select the Status tab.
Verify Internet IP Address. In case the Internet IP Address counts displayed are,
select Release IP Address then click on Renew IP Address buttons. Remember:  For Wireless-B and for Wireless-G routers, tap on DHCP Release as well as DHCP Renew buttons.
 You must be able to use the Internet.  In case it is not accessible then power cycle the modem then the device. 

To perform the power cycle process follow these instructions:

Close or stop the modem. When the modem is OFF, plug off the power adapter through the router and close the computer.
Then start the modem and hold on for its lights to be lit.
Start the router, then hold on for its lights to be lit properly, then start your device.
Your Internet connection must be active now.  If you are still unable to get online, then try to reconfigure the modem.

Parental controls on linksys router:

If you don’t want your children to have access to certain websites or information at specified hours or days, the Linksys router has a feature called “Parental Control.” This capability allows a user to restrict internet access on a network to certain or all users. Using the Linksys connect program or the http://myrouter.local web address, you can quickly set up parental control. If your Linksys router does not support the Linksys Connect software, you can set up parental controls using the traditional approach of utilizing the myrouter.local web address.

Start using the ‘Parental Control’ feature in the Linksys Connect program. To open the ‘Linksys Connect’ program on a Windows computer, go to the ‘Start’ menu and look for ‘Linksys Connect software’ under ‘All Programs.’ On a Mac, select the ‘Go’ option and then ‘Application’ to launch the ‘Linksys Connect’ application.

  • Select the ‘Parental Control’ option, then the ‘Enable’ option.
  • You must now pick the ‘Target Device,’ after which you can set a schedule for restricting internet access.
  • You can choose ‘Always’ under the scheduling option to block the website at all times.
  • Create a password for your device’s parental controls. Choose from a list of security questions. This is for those times when you forget the Linksys router’s password control.
  • Finally, you can specify which websites you want to restrict on your network.

Enable parental control using myrouter.local web address

If your Linksys router does not support the Linksys Connect program, you can set up parental control through the web browser at http://myrouter.local.

  • Wirelessly or with an Ethernet cable, connect the Linksys router to the computer.
  • Enter the username and password for your Linksys device at http://myrouter.local in the browser that you just opened.
  • Select the devices to which you want to limit internet access under the ‘Parental Control’ option.
  • By selecting the Always, Specific Time, or Never option, you can limit internet access.
